What's in a name? Print E-mail

For some people, rather a lot.

There has been debate for years over the name of the Society.  We do not do operas any more, have not done so for a long, long time, and have no imminent intention of doing any.  Yes, we do perform Gilbert and Sullivan comical operettas from time to time, but there was a strong feeling that “Gosport Amateur Operatic Society” was sending completely the wrong message to potential recruits and potential audience members.

Until recently, no-one had come up with a viable alternative, hemmed in as we are by names of other organisations – either current or recently demised – in the area.  On June 1st, that will all change, when we become “Gosport Musical Theatre Productions”, with the neat website name of

www.gmtp.org

So, when you see GMTP, or Gosport Musical Theatre Productions, just remember it is GAOS doing the same things under a different name!
